Glebe Private Lane-way Courtyard
Positioned in the Sydney Heritage area of Glebe, this small space required the utmost attention to detail to tie together interior and exterior spaces.
Angled Lines from the internal layout were continued into the garden space, creating a visual connection from inside to out. A simple planting palette with deciduous Gingko and Pistachio trees were chosen to reduce ongoing maintenance and take advantage of seasonal colours and solar access.
Custom blackbutt timber fencing, with palings on both sides is broken up with striking custom cut metal screens for pedestrian and driveway gate entry.
An almost white sandstone was used for paving to tie into the neutral colour palette of the interior. The more traditional style retaining walls were created using Sydney sandstone colouring, with textured rock face finish blocks. Traditional ashlar pattern is used in both walls and paving reflecting the early heritage of the surrounding area.
This outdoor space faces onto a lane-way, meaning careful consultation and design was required to maintain the lane-way character from the street view as well as ensure complete privacy for the property owners.
Security was enhanced with a video intercom system and electronic locking as well as motorised telescopic gates that maximised parking space.
We look forward to visiting in the spring to see a thriving garden!
